LG GS500g Cookie - Insert pause in speed dial?

I have been trying to figgure out how to program a pause into a phone number when saving it. From what I can tell from other threads for different phones it should work to enter a p into the number where I want the pause but letters are not an option and holding the # key does not seem to work with the touch screen...please any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated!
