Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Menu"
  2. Tap "System settings" and access the "General" tab
  3. Tap "Battery" > "Battery saver"
  4. Tap the "Battery saver" switch to enable the feature
  5. Touch "Battery saver" and select the battery level at which the mode turns on
  6. Mark or clear the check boxes associated with the features that you wish to be enabled or disabled during battery saver mode
  7. For more options, tap "Brightness" and "Screen timeout"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Screen Timeout:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Menu"
  2. Go to "Settings" and tap "Display"
  3. Tap "Brightness" and drag the slider to the left to set it to a lower level
  4. Tap "Screen timeout" from the previous menu
  5. Select a lower value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Hotspot:

NOTE: A smartphone's connectivity features can have a pretty big impact on your phone's battery life. As such, it's recommended that you disable these features whenever they are not in use. To do so:

  1. Tap "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and tap "Tethering & Networks"
  3. Tap "Mobile Hotspot"
  4. Clear the "Mobile Hotspot" check box
  5. Press "Back" twice to return to the "Settings" menu
  6. Swipe to "Personal" and tap "Location access"
  7. Clear the check box next to "GPS satellites"
  8. Swipe the "Status" bar down
  9. Tap the "Wi-Fi" and "Bluetooth" switches to disable these features

Changing the Sync Settings for Apps:

  1. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Swipe to "Personal"
  3. Tap "Mobile data" and press the "Menu" key
  4. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: Although you might not use a certain third party app, the application can still affect your phone's battery life assuming that it runs processes in the background. As such, it's recommended that you uninstall or disable unused applications. To do so:

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Swipe to "Device" and tap "Apps"
  4. Select the app you wish to edit
  5. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app
  6. To remove the app completely, tap "Uninstall" instead

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. From the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Go to "Tethering & Networks"
  4. Tap "Mobile networks" under "Network settings"
  5. Mark the "Use only 2G networks"
  6. To return to 4G connectivity, clear the aforementioned check box

Keeping Your Smartphone Updated:

NOTE: Smartphone manufacturers and carriers sometimes release software updates that include fixes and improvements to your phone's battery life. As such, it's recommended that you keep your smartphone up to date.

Remember that following the steps below will have no effect on your phone's battery performance if no updates are available for download.

  1. Press "Menu" on the home screen
  2. Tap "System settings"
  3. Swipe to "System" and then tap "About phone"
  4. Tap "System updates"
  5. Press "Check now"
  6. If necessary, follow any additional steps to download and apply the update(s)
