WARNING! Factory resetting your phone will result in the deletion of all personal data located on the device’s internal memory. This includes media files, downloads, applications, contacts etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values, however, data located on the SD and SIM cards will not be deleted.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions regarding data backup, and this thread for instructions on how to restore data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Swipe the “Notification” bar down on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Tap “General” > “Backup & reset”
  4. Clear or check “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore”
  5. Tap “Backup account”
  6. If necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to create or sign in with your Google backup account
  7. Tap “Factory data reset”
  8. At the prompt, choose whether to “Erase SD card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data stored on the SD card will be permanently deleted during the factory reset
  9. Tap “Reset phone” > “Next”
  10. Tap “Delete all”
  11. Press “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via System Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesn’t allow you to perform a factory reset via Settings, you can try applying a factory reset from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of hardware button presses.

  1. First make sure the phone is turned off
  2. Next, press and hold “Volume down” and “Power” at the same time
  3. When the “LG” logo appears, quickly release and re-hold “Power”
  4. Once you gain access to the “Factory data reset” screen, release all buttons
  5. From the menu, press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. At the “Erase all user data and restore default settings” prompt press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  8. Press “Power” again to confirm the selection and reset your device
  9. Once done, wait for your phone to reboot

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Navigation” bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap “Settings” > “General”
  3. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  4. Tap “Software info” and check if a new update is available
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: a reboot may be required during the process)
