Hello guys,
I hope someone here can help me.
I am the owner of a Motorola Bagphone, which I use on the boat for excellent reception.
I just reactivated it after a few years and put it on my service plan.
I am able to place calls without problem.
However, receiving calls is a problem:
First of all, I don't hear a ringtone, only the keypad is illuminated.
Then, after two rings, my mailbox answers (even when I pick up using the SND button). On the bagphone, I only listen to a dead line.
When the caller (or me in the case of a test call) leaves a message after the beep, I on my bagphone hear: "We cannot complete your call as dialed. Please check the number and try again. Alltell 42p".
My provider here in Florida is AllTel.
Please help me.
Sincerely,
Andreas

First thing to check is the Seting for your ring tones so that the volume is loud enough. if that has been checked then there should be a setting for diffrent types of rings such as loud soft and quite and if your phone as a vibrating option it will be listed in there as well. make sure that your setting is on loud and you shouldnt have a problem it can be just that your cellphone isnt set for reciving calls wich can be changed in your phone options you will need to consult your user manula to get the exact placement. once you make these changes you should be ok. if not post again.

First of all, thank you very much for your reply!
Unfortunately, I/my dad lost the manual/can't find it.
I know how to adjust the speaker volume, but I have no idea on how to adjust the ringer volume.
I have also checked the Motorola bible, it says FCN+VOL, but that didn't work.
I also have no clue on whether the phone is in "outgoing only" mode, much less how to change it.
Do you/anyone know where to find the information?
Thank you again,
Andy

As for the answering option (meaning your vm picks up on second ring) you should be able to change something like that in your vm menu, i.e. the menu you get when calling your vm. As for the rest I'll look around and see what I can find out.

OK did a little checking and found out that a lot of the bag phone have this problem, seems that the ringer speaker is a piece of you know what and that it either comes unsoldered or just stops working for no reason. You could try getting it repaired ooooorrrrrr go to e-bay and get one for about 25 bucks, the latter sounds like the best bet to me, because your more than likely gonna spend much more than that to have it repaired, unless you bought some kind of extended extended warranty on it. Good luck!

Thank you Griffzan!
I will look into the ringer problem and will replace the handset/ringer speaker.
I didn't have this voice message problem with my old phone; and even when I answer after the first ring, the voice mail 'hijacks' my call. It seems strange, because it didn't happen with my old phone!
Edit: Isn't the ringer speaker the same that makes the noise when adjusting the volume or pressing button? Because this one is working.
Thank you.

I'm not exactly sure, I haven't delt with this phone in a long time. I'm 30 right now and when I first started dealing with phones this was one of the first ones. Check to see if the sound is comming from the headset (or ear piece) if thats the case then they are two seperate parts operating independently from each other, from my experience the ear piece will make a sound when being turned up but that doesn't mean your ringer speaker is working. Double check to be sure, I would hate to point you in the wrong direction. And possibly buy a phone when you don't need to.

Thanks again, I will check if the ringer is working tomorrow.
But even if it is not, why would I not be able to answer a call when I know that there is an incoming call? Could that be a programming problem?
Or, as was pointed out in the first reply the phone is in outgoing only mode??
Sincerely,
Andreas

If I understand your post coorectly you do have voice mail (it just picks up before you can answer) when you call your vm, normaly you have a menu that allows you to change how you recieve mess, forwarding options, and most importantly how many times your phone rings (if you can ever get the ringer to work) before the vm mail will get pick up the call. I'm not exactly sure how your vm is set up, otherwise I'd sep you through it. You can call your service provider and they should be able to walk you through it, barring it's not a headset issue. Now if this fixes the problem you still have the first, I'd look into fixing the ringing problem first. Good luck.

it could also be a setting within your vm box as well

Thank you for your replies.
Before I transferred my service plan onto this phone, my mailbox did not pick up the call.
It seems to me like I decline the call instead of picking up, or the service provider thinks my phone is busy and redirects calls to my mailbox.
I checked my mailbox options, I can't adjust the times it rings before the mailbox picks up, but that shoudn't be the problem.

Solved
Hello guys,
I have solved the problem. I had to ask the provider to disable digital services, which they did reluctantly.
