Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Turn on Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider to the left to decrease luminosity
- For more options, go to Settings
- Under Device, tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth when these features are not in use, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth tiles to disable these features
- For additional GPS options, open Settings
- Tap Location > Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to Settings
- Then, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch to OFF
Switch to 2G Connectivity:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Go to Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party applications can perform regular background processes, and thus they can technically affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps form your device, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All Apps is selected from the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop to disable it
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
NOTE: You can also uninstall apps by opening the apps drawer, and dragging & dropping the apps shortcut on top of the Uninstall section at the top of the screen.
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your apps / accounts sync settings to minimize sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select an account and disable the desired sync options
Keep The Software Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it. NOTE: This process will require you to reboot your phone.
