Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Access “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu”
  5. Turn on “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the “brightness” slider to the left to decrease luminosity
  3. For more options, go to “Settings”
  4. Under “Device”, tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth when these features are not in use, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” tiles to disable these features
  3. For additional GPS options, open “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to “Settings”
  6. Then, tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch to OFF

Switch to 2G Connectivity:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party applications can perform regular background processes, and thus they can technically affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps form your device, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is selected from the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop” to disable it
  5. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: You can also uninstall apps by opening the apps drawer, and dragging & dropping the app’s shortcut on top of the “Uninstall” section at the top of the screen.

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your apps / accounts’ sync settings to minimize sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Accounts” under “Personal”
  4. Select an account and disable the desired sync options

Keep The Software Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it. NOTE: This process will require you to reboot your phone.
