Turn ON Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling your phones connectivity options when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down with two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- For more options, open Settings
- For additional GPS options, go to Location > Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Next, tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Turn on 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Go to Settings for more options
- Next, scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Change Sync Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your accounts/apps sync settings to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an existing account and disable the desired sync options
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party applications perform regular background processes, which means they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and make sure All Apps is checked in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app
- Tap Force Stop to disable the app, or tap Uninstall to remove it from your phone
NOTE: Alternatively, you can remove an app from your phone by opening the apps drawer on the home screen and then dragging & dropping the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for new updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it. NOTE: The updating process will require at least one reboot
