Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including save games, settings, profiles, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Apps” and make sure “All Apps” is selected at the top of the screen
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Go to “Storage” and tap “Clear cache”
  6. If clearing the cache didn’t help, you can alternatively tap “Clear data” > “OK” (NOTE: Check WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone doesn’t work as intended, freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from factory resetting it, you can try fixing these problems by wiping the phone’s cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data on the internal memory.

  1. First make sure your phone is powered Off
  2. Next, press and hold “Power” and “Volume Down” at the same time, for at least 5 seconds
  3. Once you gain access to “Boot Mode Selection Menu”, release both buttons
  4. From the menu, press “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Recovery”
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” repeatedly until you gain access to the Android Recovery menu
  7. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. After the cache partition is wiped “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
  10. Press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app on your phone that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Wake up the screen if necessary
  2. On the home screen, press and hold “Power”
  3. In the pop-up window, tap and hold “Power Off”
  4. When asked to reboot in Safe Mode, tap “OK” to confirm (NOTE: once the phone reboots, it should display a “Safe Mode” watermark in the lower-left corner of the screen)
  5. Next open the “Settings” menu
  6. Access “Apps” and make sure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  7. Select the desired application and tap “Uninstall” > “OK” to confirm
  8. To exit Safe Mode, simply power-cycle the device as you would normally do. Press and hold “Power” and tap “Power Off”
