Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or doesnt work as intended, you might be able to fix these issues by clearing the apps cache and/or data.
WARNING! By clearing an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes user profiles, login information, custom settings, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Go to Apps and select All apps
- Select the desired app
- Go to Storage and tap Clear cache
- If clearing the app cache didnt help, you can tap Clear data > OK (check warning above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, doesnt work as intended and youre considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try solving these issues by clearing the devices cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.
- Turn the phone off if necessary
- Press and hold Power and Volume down simultaneously
- Release the buttons at the Boot Mode Selection menu
- Press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Recovery
- Press Volume Up to select the highlighted option
- At the No Command screen, press Volume Up and Power repeatedly
- Once you gain access to Android Recovery, navigate the menu by pressing Volume Down and highlight Wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Lastly, highlight Reboot to system now and press Power to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issues, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesnt work as intended and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot to Safe Mode:
- Press and hold Power on the home screen
- From the power management pop-up, tap and hold Power off
- When prompted to Reboot to Safe Mode tap OK
- Once the phone reboots, a Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
- To uninstall an app, first go to Settings
- Then access Apps and switch to All apps if needed
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall > OK
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot your device as you normally would
