I strongly recommend getting a quad band, or world phone, from T-Mobile. They have the best international rates ($0.99/min from Europe) and good phones. I have looked and tried every major US carrier, and as a frequest traveller myself, I must say that T-Mobile has the best International services. No problem.

I'm actually just a very frequest traveler. I went to Singapore, Cambodia, and Malaysia for about two weeks in April. It was a lot of fun. I bought two Sprint international phones, but they never sent the SIM cards in time (which they had about 3 weeks to do so.) My aunt let us borrow her T-Mobile phones. Not only were the rates cheaper and the phones nicer, they had MUCH better service than when my family used them in Europe this summer.
