We are considering to buy several i315's or 58sr's. The i315 is durable and has off network capabilities. The 58sr is also durable but has Java capablities that GPS can be added for free using http://www.accutracking.com/ . The 58 does have problems with battery port getting dirty, while the new phones have a door. The i325 would be ideal but is expensive even with activation. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hmm,you should really think about this one...

If you have and dont want slackers, then get the Java phone(I58). You'll have more productivity, but your people will have a grudge against you for tracking them. (Trust Me)

If you go with the i58,you'll have less battery time, which can present a problem in the future. Also they have a tendency to have their rubber exterior simply peel off with time.

i315's on the other hand wont have the tracking, but they're pretty durable.Thats pretty much the only difference I can see.

Quick question though, why have you rounded it down to these phones? You could also go with a variety of other phones such as the i88,i305 and the i205,which are all cheaper than the i325.

The i315, i325, and 58sr are the only phones designed to military specs for durability. (The phones will be considered company -as opposed to- personal property). On construction sites, the phones are subject to difficult condtions. In addition, the i315, and 325 have a CB feature that you can talk off network. I have been on a site where a Nextel phone will have a signal and then -literally- 10' away, the signal disappears. Having the direct talk will help when we have more than one person on a site, or a delivery has to be made an we need to find the guy on site. I mentioned this to one of our contractors, last week ,and he intends to make the i315 the standard for his company). On the other hand, when the person is lost and cannot find the job, with the GPS we then can give them directions from the office. As far as finding out when they are working or not, this is seconday use to us because we can tell what they have done. Hence the reason the cost ($15) of the ulocate with the i305 considered being too high.
