Transfer Audio Files from a Computer:

NOTE: You can use several methods to transfer audio files from a computer to your phone to use for ringtones and notifications. The methods differ based on the type of OS used on your computer.

To transfer audio files manually without additional applications:

  1. Connect the Lumia 950 XL to your computer via USB
  2. Launch the File Explorer on the PC
  3. Locate the desired audio files on your computer, and copy them
  4. Transfer the audio files on the phone storage, preferably in the “Ringtones” folder located in the “Phone” root directory
  5. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage from the system tray, and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

Change the General Ringtone:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Tap “Personalization” > “Sound”
  3. Tap the “Ringtone” drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired ringtone
  5. Optionally, you can also enable or disable “Vibrate” for calls

Change the Ringtone of a Specific Contact:

  1. Tap “People” on the Start screen
  2. Select the contact you want to edit
  3. Tap “Edit” > “Ringtone”
  4. Select the desired ringtone and tap “Save”

Change Notification Settings for Apps:

  1. Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
  2. Go to “Personalization”
  3. Access “Sounds”
  4. Swipe to and tap “Manage app sounds”
  5. From this menu, you can adjust notification options for each app individually

Block / Unblock Notifications on the Lock Screen:

NOTE: For more privacy you can choose to hide notifications on the lock screen. To do this:

  1. Tap “Settings” on the Start screen
  2. Go to “System” > “Notifications & Actions”
  3. Tap “Show notifications on the lock screen”
  4. Tap to disable or enable the option
