I am writing MIDI files in an attempt to imitate some tone-based alert sounds from various sources (for example, the unobtrusive office-phone ring). Through trial and error, I have determined that the waveform that correctly matches such sounds is a simple sine wave, which is availble as an alternate instrument (81-8) on my Creative Audigy card. However, none of the standard MIDI instruments I have tried on the Nokia 6820 I own is a pure sine wave.
Doesn't seem to much to ask, is it? Is there an instrument on the Nokia's MIDI decoder that is a simple sine wave (with 128 to try, I haven't got desperate enough to try them all)? Is there another way, another format perhaps, that I can convert a MIDI to that will play as a sine wave through it's little, tinny speaker?

Is there a better place to ask this question? A more technical forum, perhaps?
