Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” for additional options
  4. Go to “Device” and tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower screen timeout value

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not in use – including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS – you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the status bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to turn the features off
  3. For additional options, open “Settings”
  4. Go to “Location” for GPS options, tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the feature OFF

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  2. Access “Mobile networks”
  3. Tap “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G”

Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Go to “Accounts” and select the desired account
  4. Change the account’s settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phone’s battery life even when they are not actively in use. Thus you can disable or remove unused third party apps to improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
  4. Tap the desired app
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the Software Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available for download
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: this will require at least one reboot)
