Why did you convert it to .qcp? Doesn't the a950 play mp3 ringers? And wouldn't they just naturally sound better?

Unfortunately, QCP in my opinion is almost always going to sound like crap. The format was designed for voice recording, and just doesn't seem to do well with recordings that have multiple instruments and vocal tracks overlapping each other. The best results I've been able to get with the QCP format are either voice-only recordings, like clips from tv and movies, or instrumental solos. Those seem to sound fairly decent.

Something you can try if you still want to try making QCP files out of music, I've had some success with this but nothing to write home about. I've got a free media editor called Hidden Content (that's a link btw) and with a little practice you can clean the sound up a little by converting the file to a mono WAV file, the lowest bitrate you can possibly go to without degrading the sound of the original file, and then you want to run an option called "Normalize". You want to use the highest setting for normalizing that you possibly can, again, without degrading sound quality too much. A little degradation is going to be inevitable but you are doing your best to create a mono low-bitrate normalized wav that sounds halfway decent. Now, try running that through the Purevoice Converter and you should notice a little improvement over whatever you were trying before.

I hope this is helpful for you, I gave up on qcp some time ago. Hidden Content
