I'm a bit of a technomoron, so please be gentle!

I'd like to make/download free ringtones to my new razr v3a. I'd like to avoid using the alltel access browser thing, as I'm trying to avoid as many excess charges as possible. I was planning to purchase the motorola media kit that includes a usb cable for transfers. Can I use this to download ringtones?

I feel pretty silly asking this, I hope someone can help me out!

I'm not positive what the "Motorola Media Kit" is exactly...but if it's the same as "Motorola Phone Tools" than yes you can actually transfer ringtones via USB cable.

Check the box or description, it should give you an idea...although the word Media makes me think it should.

Sorry, that's what I meant. So what sites/software would work best with that?

I don't suppose there is any way to get the super expensive ringtones off of my old motorola v262...

Ok, different question...can I just buy a certain kind of usb cable? I've heard that this phone tools is utter junk. I'd rather just buy a seperate cable if that's possible.

Motorola Phone Tools is very handy software, and since neither the V3a nor the V262 take memory cards, you'll need it to transfer ringtones or any files to your phone from a computer. The phones internal software is treated like a modem by your PC, and requires the drivers in MPT to make the connection. You can't do it with a USB cable alone.

You can pick it up at Hidden Content .com for very little money, usually around 10-12 dollars including a USB cable.

I don't know if you can connect the two phones together to transfer files, but you should be able to get the ringtones off the old phone to your PC, then to the new phone from the PC.

Check the link in my signature for some instructions on how to connect the phone and PC, and also how to get free ring tones off your old CDs. It's not written for the total technomoron, but it should be understandable. Post back here with any questions. Being able to make free ring tones from your CD collection or purchased MP3s opens up whole new possibilities.
