Unfortunately with the update to Android Jelly Bean (4.1) the Galaxy SIII standard keyboard auto-correct no longer replaces words automatically. The word now just appears right below as you are typing and you have to select the word manually.
This change was made because of a lawsuit filed by Apple saying that two patents were infringed upon. Specifically "replacing the current character string in the first area with the suggested replacement if the user activates a delimiter key on the keyboard". Apple won and Samsung had to remove the auto correct functionality from its phones.
Unfortunately the only way around this is to use a different keyboard or find the original keyboard that came with your phone from Android ICS. Here are some that are available via Google Play:
- SwiftKey Keyboard (free trial)
- SwiftKey Keyboard ($3.99)
- Go Keyboard (free)
- Smart Keyboard (free trial)
- Smart Keyboard ($2.64)
