File Transfer
Transferring Audio Files From a PC:
- Connect your smartphone to your Windows computer using the USB cable
- On your handset, drag the status bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
- On your computer, once your smartphone is detected you should get a pop-up. There, click on "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Navigate to the desired music files located on your computer
- Copy the desired files from their original location, and paste them on your phone's storage. NOTE: you can paste notification sounds in the "Notification" folder located on your phone's drive
- Once finished, safely disconnect your smartphone from your computer. Click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray, click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
Transferring Audio Files From a Mac Computer:
- On your Mac, navigate to samsung.com/kies and click "Download for Mac OS"
- Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install Samsung KIES on your computer
- Once the installation process is complete, connect your smartphone to your Mac using the USB cable.
- Drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
- On your Mac, open Kies
- In Kies, select one of the following options:
- - Click the "Folder" icon associated with "Internal memory", then navigate to where you wish to add the music or audio file
- - Click the "Folder" icon associated with "External memory", then navigate to where you want to add the audio file
- On your Mac, navigate to the desired audio file(s). Drag the files and drop them into Kies
- Once finished, safely disconnect your smartphone from your computer
Adding Music to the Ringtone List:
- While viewing your smartphone's home screen, press the "Menu" key
- Tap "Settings" and go to the "My device" tab
- Tap "Sound" > "Ringtones" > "Add"
- Select either "Choose music track" or "Sound picker". NOTE: you can also use Dropbox as an alternative
- Tap "Just once" or "Always"
- Select the desired music / audio files and tap "OK"
Adding Music / Audio Files to the Notification List:
- From any of the home screens, tap "Apps"
- Tap "My files" > "All files"
- Navigate to where the desired audio files are located
- Tap and hold the desired file and select "Copy"
- Tap "Device storage"
- Select the "Notifications" folder
- Press "Paste here"
Setting Custom Sounds
Changing the Notification Sound:
- While viewing any of the home screens, press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Settings"
- Go to the "My device" tab
- Press "Sound" > "Notifications"
- Select the desired audio file and tap "OK"
Changing the Ringtone for All Calls:
- While on the home screen, press the "Menu" key
- Tap "Settings" and go to the "My device" tab
- Press "Sound" > "Ringtones"
- Select the desired ringtone to preview it, then tap "OK"
Changing the Ringtone for Calls from a Specific Contact:
NOTE: You can't assign custom ringtones to contacts that are stored on your SIM card or the phone's memory
- From any of the home screens, tap "Contacts"
- Select the desired contact
- Press the "Edit" icon depicted as a pencil
- Tap "Ringtone"
- Select the desired ringtone and then tap "OK"
- Tap "Save"
