WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will return it to factory default settings. All personal data stored on the internal storage, including custom ringtones, music files, apps, downloaded content and contacts will be lost. Content stored on the SD card and SIM card will not be affected.

NOTE: Before proceeding with master resetting, try fixing the issues you're experiencing with your device by clearing the cache partition. Unlike factory reset, caching the wipe will not result in the deletion of personal data. Follow this link for a full guide on cache partition wiping.

Master Resetting via the Settings Menu:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "Accounts" tab
  4. Tap "Backup and reset" under "Backup options"
  5. Optionally, clear the check boxes next to "Automatic restore" and "Back up my data"
  6. Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset device"
  7. In case your smartphone is screen locked, you will be required to enter your password or PIN, and tap "Continue"
  8. Tap "Delete all" to confirm

Master Resetting Using Hardware Keys:

NOTE: use this method of resetting only if your smartphone is unresponsive, it freezes and is otherwise preventing you from applying a factory reset via the settings menu.

  1. With the smartphone powered off, press and hold the "Home", "Power" and "Volume Up" buttons at the same time
  2. After the phone vibrates, release the "Power" key but keep pressing "Home" and "Volume Up"
  3. After the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release the other two buttons as well
  4. Use the "Volume Down" button to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
  5. Press the "Power" button to select the option
  6. Navigate to and highlight "delete all user data" by pressing "Volume down"
  7. Press "Power" to commence the master reset
  8. Once done, you should see the "Reboot system now" option highlighted
  9. Press "Power" to restart your phone in normal mode
