Inserting the SD Card:

  1. Turn off your smartphone
  2. Remove the back cover by prying up on the notch
  3. Before inserting the SD card, you'll need to insert a SIM card first, if necessary
  4. Insert the SD card with the contacts facing down
  5. Push the card into the compartment with care, and refit the back cover

Viewing the Free SD Card Space:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Under "System", tap "Storage"
  4. The "Available space" value is found under "SD Card"

Setting the Default Memory Storage

NOTE: by default, the smartphone stores data on the phone's internal memory. However, you can set various apps to use the SD card instead.

Setting the Default Memory Storage to SD for the Camera App:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
  2. Tap "Camera"
  3. Tap the "Settings" icon located in the top-left corner
  4. Swipe up and tap "Storage"
  5. Select "memory card"

Setting the Default Memory Storage to SD for the "Voice Recorder":

  1. Tap "Apps" while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Voice recorder"
  3. Tap the "Settings" icon located in the upper-left area
  4. Swipe up and then tap "Storage"
  5. Lastly, select "Memory card"

Setting the Default Memory Storage to SD for the Internet App:

  1. While on a home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Tap "Internet"
  3. Press the "Menu" key and tap "Settings"
  4. Under "Advanced", tap "Content settings"
  5. Tap "Default storage" and select "SD card"

Setting the Default Memory Storage to SD for DLNA (Nearby Devices):

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "Connect and Share", tap "nearby devices"
  4. Set the "nearby devices" switch to "ON"
  5. Tap "Download to" and select "SD card"

Opening or Deleting Files on the SD Card

Opening or Deleting SD Card Files Using the Smartphone:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Tap "My files"
  3. Scroll to "Local storage" and tap "SD Card"
  4. Tap "SD memory card"
  5. Touch the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right area of the screen
  6. Tap "Select", and mark the check boxes associated with each content type
  7. Mark the check boxes located to the left of the files and folders that you wish to delete
  8. Tap "Done" > "OK"

Opening or Deleting SD Card Files Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Establish a connection between the Samsung Galaxy S5 and your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "USB connected"
  3. Tap "Connect USB storage"
  4. In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open folder to view files" > "OK"
  5. You should now see two directories. The "Card" icon represents the SD storage
  6. Locate the files / folders that you wish to view or delete
  7. After performing the necessary steps (opening or deleting), tap "Disconnect storage from PC" on the smartphone

Opening or Deleting SD Card Files Using a Mac Computer

NOTE: Follow the first two steps only if you don't have Samsung Kies installed on your Mac

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your Mac and visit Kies
  2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the software
  3. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S5 to your Mac via USB
  4. On the SGS5, swipe the "Status" bar down, and tap "Connected as a media device"
  5. Mark the "Media device" check box
  6. On the computer, launch Kies and wait for the SGS5 to appear under "Connected devices"
  7. In Kies, navigate to the files that you wish to view or remove. NOTE: you can also navigate to the desired files by clicking the "Folder" icon next to "External memory"
  8. After locating a file, double click to open it
  9. To delete a file or folder, mark the check box associated with it, click the "Trash can" icon > "OK"
  10. Once the process is complete, safely disconnect your Galaxy S5 from the Mac

Transferring Files From / To the SD Card

Transferring Files from the Internal Storage to the SD Card:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
  2. Tap "My Files"
  3. Under "Local storage", tap "Device storage"
  4. Navigate to where the desired files are located on the internal storage
  5. Mark the check boxes next to the desired files or folders
  6. Tap the "menu" icon in the top-right, and tap "Move". NOTE: you can tap "Copy" instead, if you wish to create duplicates
  7. Tap "SD memory card"
  8. Navigate to where you wish to transfer the files on the SD card
  9. Tap "Move here" / "Paste here"

Transferring Files from the SD Card to the Internal Storage:

  1. Launch the "My Files" application
  2. Under "Local storage", tap "SD card"
  3. Tap "SD memory card" to access the external storage
  4. Navigate to where the desired files are stored on the SD card
  5. Mark the check boxes next to the files that you wish to transfer
  6. Tap the "menu" icon and select "Move" or "Copy"
  7. Tap "Device storage" and navigate to where you wish to move / copy the files on the internal storage
  8. Tap "Move here" / "Paste here"
