Clearing Application Cache and / or Data

NOTE: assuming that one of your applications isn't working as intended, then you can clear the app's cache and / or data in order to try and fix these issues.

WARNING! Clearing an application's data will result in the deletion of all personal data stored within the app, including user and credit card information, profiles, saved games, high scores etc. With that being said, it's recommended that you first clear the application's cache, as doing so won't affect any data.

Clear an App's Cache / Data:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
  3. Tap "Application manager"
  4. Touch and hold the desired app and touch "Clear cache"
  5. In case clearing the cache hasn't solved the issues, tap "Clear data" > "OK"

Clearing the Cache of All Apps at Once:

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "System" and go to "Storage"
  4. Wait for the device to calculate the "Cached data"
  5. Tap "Cached data" > "OK"

Clearing the Phone's Cache Partition

NOTE: In case you're thinking about master resetting your smartphone in order to fix certain issues that you may experience with it, then you may want to try and clear the phone's cache partition first. By doing so, you may be able to fix the device without having to master reset it and lose all personal data. To clear the phone's cache:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy Avant
  2. Press and hold "Home", "Volume Up" and "Power" at the same time
  3. After the device vibrates, release the "Power" button but continue to hold down "Home" and "Volume Up"
  4. At the "Android System Recovery" screen, release the "Home" and "Volume Up" buttons
  5. From the Recovery menu, press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe cache partition"
  6. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option
  7. Wait for the device to clear the cache, and the "Reboot system now" option should be highlighted
  8. Press "Power" to reboot your device

Safe Mode Management

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that prevents you from removing it while running processes in the background, then you can uninstall the application from safe mode. In safe mode, all third party apps are disabled.

Entering Safe Mode:

  1. Turn off your device
  2. Press and hold the "Power" key
  3. At the "Samsung" splash screen, release the "Power" key but immediately press and hold "Volume Down"
  4. After your smartphone finishes rebooting, release the "Volume down" button
  5. Once the phone finished restarting, a "Safe Mode" label should be visible in the left-corner of the screen

Removing an Application in Safe Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and scroll to "Applications"
  3. Tap "Application manager"
  4. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen and tap the desired app
  5. Select to "Uninstall" the app and press "OK"
  6. To exit safe mode, press and hold the "Power" key and then tap "Restart"
