Inserting the SD Card:

  1. Turn off your smartphone
  2. Remove the back cover
  3. If necessary, insert a SIM card
  4. Insert the SD card in its slot, gold contacts facing downwards
  5. Gently push the card into its slot
  6. Refit the back cover and turn on your device

Viewing the Amount of SD Card Space:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Under "System", tap "Storage"
  4. Swipe to "SD card" and you can view the "Available space" value

Formatting the SD Card:

WARNING! Formatting the SD card will result in the deletion of all data stored on it! Before proceeding, create backups if necessary.

  1. Tap "Apps" on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "System" and tap "Storage"
  4. Tap "Format SD card" under "SD Card"
  5. Tap "Format SD card" a second time to confirm
  6. Press "Delete all"

Opening or Deleting SD Card Files

Using the Smartphone:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Launch "My files"
  3. Swipe to "Local storage" and tap "SD card"
  4. To open a file or folder, tap it
  5. To delete files, first tap "SD memory card" and touch the "Menu" icon
  6. Next, tap "Select" and mark the check boxes associated with the content type you wish to remove
  7. Lastly, tap "Done" > "OK"

Using a Windows PC:

  1. Establish a connection between the SGS5 Active and computer via USB
  2. Drag the "Status" bar down
  3. Tap "USB connected" > "Connect USB storage"
  4. In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click to "Open folder to view files"
  5. Open the "Card" drive, representing the SD storage
  6. Open or delete the desired files
  7. When done, tap "Disconnect storage from PC"

Using a Mac Computer:

NOTE: You should skip the first 3 steps assuming that you already have Samsung Kies on your Mac

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your Mac computer
  2. Visit Kies and click "Download for Mac OS"
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install Kies on your Mac
  4. Connect the S5 Active to your Mac via USB
  5. On the smartphone, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
  6. Mark the "Media device" check box
  7. Launch Kies and you should find your S5 Active under "Connected devices"
  8. From Kies, click the "Folder" icon next to "External memory"
  9. To open a file, double-click it
  10. To remove a file or a folder, mark the check box associate with it and click the "Trash can" icon. Confirm by clocking "OK"
  11. Once you're done, click the S5 Active's drive located on the Mac's desktop, and drag it on top of the "Eject / Trash bin" icon
  12. Safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac

Transferring Files From / To the SD Card

Transfer Files from the SD to the Internal Memory:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Launch "My Files"
  3. Scroll to "Local storage" and tap "SD card"
  4. Tap "SD memory card" and locate the desired files and folders
  5. Mark the check boxes associated with the files you wish to transfer
  6. Tap "Menu" and select "Copy" or "Move" (NOTE: selecting "Copy" will create duplicate files)
  7. Tap "Device storage" and go to the location where you wish to transfer the files
  8. Tap "Paste here" or "Move here"

Transferring Files from the Internal Memory to the SD Card:

  1. Launch the "My Files" app
  2. Scroll to "Local storage" and select "Device storage"
  3. Locate the files you wish to transfer to the SD card
  4. Mark the check boxes associated with the desired files and / or folders
  5. When ready, tap the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right corner
  6. Tap "Move" or "Copy"
  7. Select "SD memory card" and navigate to where the files need to be transferred
  8. Tap "Paste here" or "Move here"

Setting the Default Memory Location for Apps

NOTE: By default, most of your pre-loaded applications will use the phone's internal memory for storing data. This option can be changed for the majority of pre-installed applications, assuming that you wish to use the SD card for storing data instead.

Changing the Camera App's Settings:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Camera"
  2. From the viewfinder, tap the "Settings" icon
  3. Swipe to and tap "Storage"
  4. Select "Memory card"

Change the Voice Recorder App's Storage Settings:

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  2. Launch "Voice recorder"
  3. Tap "Settings" and go to "Storage"
  4. Select "Memory Card"

Change the Internet App's Storage Settings:

  1. While on a home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Launch "Internet" and press "Menu"
  3. Tap "Settings"
  4. Under "Advanced", tap "Content settings"
  5. Touch "Default storage" and select "SD Card"

Change the Storage Location for DLNA (Nearby Devices):

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Launch "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Connect and Share" and tap "Nearby devices"
  4. Tap the "Nearby devices" switch and set it to "ON"
  5. Tap "Download to" and select "SD Card"
