Clearing App Cache / Data:

NOTE: Assuming that one or more of your applications doesn't work as intended (crashes, freezes etc.) then you might be able to fix these problems by clearing the app's cache or data.

WARNING! Clearing an application's data will result in the deletion of all personal information stored within the app, including saved games, profiles, credit card and log in details, high scores etc. As such, it's recommended that you first try fixing these issues by clearing the app's cache.

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing a home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
  3. Tap "Application manager" and swipe to the "All" or "Downloaded" screen
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Tap "Clear cache"
  6. If clearing the cache didn't help, tap "Clear data" > "OK"

Wiping the Phone's Cache Partition:

NOTE: Assuming that your smartphone doesn't work properly, it crashes, freezes etc. and you're considering master resetting it, then you should try fixing these issues by first clearing the phone's cache partition. Unlike a factory reset, clearing the phone's cache won't result in the deletion of personal data. To wipe the cache:

  1. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" buttons at the same time
  2. After the phone vibrates, release the "Power" and "Home" buttons but continue pressing "Volume Up"
  3. When the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release the "Volume Up" button as well
  4. In the recovery menu, press "Volume Down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe cache partition"
  5. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option
  6. After the cache partition has been wiped, "Reboot system now" should be highlighted
  7. Press "Power" to restart your device

NOTE: If wiping the cache partition hasn't solved the issues, then you might still want to factory reset your smartphone. To learn how you can apply a master reset on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, follow this link for a full guide.
