Restoring Apps:

  1. Sign in with your Samsung or Google account (specifically the one used for the initial backup)
  2. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu and swipe to "User and Backup"
  3. Tap "Accounts" and select "Samsung" or "Google", depending on what account type you used for the backup
  4. Tap the "email address" located at the upper side of the screen
  5. Tap "Sync all", press "Back" twice and then tap "Backup and reset"
  6. Under "Backup and restore", mark / clear the "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" check boxes

Restoring Contacts

From the SD Card:

  1. Ensure that the SD card containing the desired backup file is installed
  2. Open the apps drawer and go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Applications"
  4. Tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  5. Tap "Import / Export", followed by "Import from SD card"
  6. Perform any additional on-screen steps to complet t he restore

From a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Register your Samsung or Google account on the phone
  2. Tap "Apps" and go to "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "User and Backup" and then tap "Accounts"
  4. Tap "Samsung" or "Google" depending on the type of account you used for creating the backup
  5. Tap your "email address" at the top of the screen
  6. Mark the "Sync Contacts" check box if necessary, and tap "Sync now"

Restoring Media Files

From the SD Card:

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch "My Files"
  2. Tap "All files" > "SD card"
  3. Press "Menu" and tap "Select"
  4. Mark the check boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
  5. Press "Menu" > "Move"
  6. Tap "Device storage" > "Move here"
  7. To move the files to a different location, tap the folder name or tap "Create folder"

From a Windows PC:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy A5 and your computer
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and if necessary, mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  3. In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open device to view files"
  4. Go to the phone's SD card or internal storage
  5. Open a second Windows Explorer window and locate the backup files on your computer
  6. Transfer the files to your phone and once the transfer is done, eject your phone's storage and safely disconnect the device from your computer

From a Mac Computer:

  1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy A5 to your Mac via USB
  2. Open the notification area and mark the "Media Device" check box if necessary
  3. Launch Kies on your Mac and go to the "Back up / restore" tab
  4. Access the "Restore" tab if necessary and mark the "Music" and "Photo" check boxes. You can also mark the boxes associated with other types of files you wish to restore
  5. Click "Restore" and follow the on-screen prompts if applicable
  6. Once the restore is done, eject the phone's storage and safely disconnect it from the Mac
