Restore Apps:

  1. Sign in with the Google / Samsung account used for the backup
  2. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  3. Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Accounts"
  4. Choose "Google" or "Samsung" depending on the type of account you used
  5. Tap your email address and then tap "Sync all"
  6. Press "Back" to return to the "Users and Backup" menu
  7. Tap "Backup and reset"
  8. Clear and check the "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" boxes under "Backup and restore"

Restoring Contacts

From a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. If needed sign in with your Google or Samsung account
  2. From the phone's "Settings" menu, swipe to "User and Backup"
  3. Tap "Accounts" and select "Google" or "Samsung"
  4. Tap the "email address" at the top of the screen and mark the "Sync Contacts" check box
  5. Tap "Sync now"

Restore Contacts from an SD Card Backup:

  1. Ensure the SD card containing the backup file is installed on your phone
  2. Launch the "Contacts" app
  3. From the "Contacts" tab, press "Menu" > "Settings" > "Contacts"
  4. Tap "Import /Export" > "Import from SD Card"
  5. Select an account if necessary

Restore Media Files

From the SD Card:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch "My Files"
  3. Tap "All files" > "SD card" > "Menu"
  4. Tap "Select" and check the boxes associated with the files you want to restore
  5. Press "Menu" > "Move"
  6. Tap "Device storage" > "Move here". Optionally, tap "Create folder" or the folder name to restore (move) the files to a different location

From a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Galaxy J1 to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down on the smartphone
  3. Enable "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
  4. On the computer, click "Open device to view files"
  5. Navigate to the location where the files should be restored
  6. Launch a second Windows Explorer window and locate the files backed up on your computer's HDD
  7. Copy the files and restore them to your phone's storage
  8. Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone

Restore Files from a Mac:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Samsung Galaxy J1 to your Mac
  2. Ensure that "Media Device (MTP)" is enabled in the notification area
  3. On the Mac, launch Kies and click the "Back up / restore" tab
  4. Access the "Restore" tab and mark the check boxes associated with the types of media files you wish to restore. Alternatively tap "Select all items"
  5. Click "Restore" and if necessary, follow any on-screen steps that may follow
  6. After the restoration process is complete, eject the phone's storage from the Mac and safely disconnect it
