Back Up Applications:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Swipe to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Enable “Back up my data”. This will back up your account data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords
  5. Enable “Automatic restore” if you want backed up settings and data to be restored the next time you re-install backed up apps

NOTE: App data will be automatically restored when you sign in with your Google account on the phone

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Tap the account you want to sync
  5. Tap “More” > “Sync now”

NOTE: Contacts will be automatically restored the next time you sign into the Google account used for the initial backup.

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy A8 to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the “Status” bar down and tap “Connected as a media device” > enable “Media device (MTP)”
  3. On the computer, double-click “Open device to view files” from the AutoPlay window
  4. Navigate to the media files on your phone
  5. Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on your computer’s HDD

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 4 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac OS”
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to install Kies on the Mac
  5. Connect the Galaxy A8 to the Mac via USB (if necessary enable “Media deice (MTP)” from the notification area)
  6. Open Kies on the Mac
  7. Inside Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
  8. Click the “Backup” tab
  9. Select the check boxes associated with “Music”, “Photo” and other types of media files
  10. Click “Backup”
  11. Once the process is done, eject the phone’s storage and safely disconnect it from the computer

Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Galaxy A8 to your PC via USB
  2. Enable “Media device (MTP)” if necessary
  3. In the AutoPlay window click to “Open device to view files”
  4. Navigate to the phone’s storage
  5. Open a second Windows Explorer window and locate the files backed up on your computer
  6. Drag the files onto your phone’s storage
  7. After the transfer, safely disconnect the phone

Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy A8 and Mac
  2. If necessary, swipe the “Status” bar down and enable “Media device (MTP)”
  3. Open Kies on the Mac
  4. Inside Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
  5. Click the “Restore” tab
  6. Mark the check boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos”, and other types of media files you want to restore
  7. To restore all of your files, check “Select all items”
  8. Click “Restore” and if necessary follow any additional steps that may follow on-screen
  9. When done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the device from the Mac
