Back Up Apps:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. From the “Accounts” tab, tap “Backup and reset”
  4. You need to be logged in to a Google account to proceed. If necessary, tap “Backup account” > “Add account”
  5. If necessary, tap to enable “Backup my data” and “Backup account”

Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Tap “Contacts” on the home screen
  2. Tap “Menu” > “Merge accounts”
  3. Select to “Merge with Google” or “Merge with Samsung”
  4. If necessary, sign in to your Samsung or Google account

Back Up Contacts on the SD Card:

  1. Make sure the SD card is inserted
  2. Launch “Contacts”
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Contacts to display”
  4. Tap “All contacts”
  5. Press “Menu” > “Import / Export”
  6. Tap “Export to SD card” > “OK” (Make sure you recall the file’s name for future use)

Back Up Media Files

Using the SD card:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Launch “My Files”
  3. Tap “All files” > “Device storage”. NOTE: to back up all of your files, press “Menu” > “Select all”, and skip to step 6
  4. Locate the folders containing the desired media files you want to back up. Usual folders of interest are “DCIM”, “Notifications”, “Downloads”, "Music” etc.
  5. Mark the check box associated with the items you want to back up
  6. Tap the “Menu” icon in the upper-right corner
  7. Tap “Copy”, or “Move” to avoid creating duplicates
  8. Tap “SD memory card” and navigate to the desired backup folder
  9. Tap “Paste here” (or “Move here” if necessary)

Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the S4 mini Plus to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the “Status” bar down, tap “Connected as a media device” and enable “Media device (MTP)”
  3. On the computer in the AutoPlay window, click to “Open device to view files using Windows Explorer”
  4. Locate the desired media files, in the “Card” and “Phone” directories
  5. Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
  6. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect it from the PC

Using a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Kies is already installed on your Mac

  1. Open the Internet browser and visit Kies
  2. Click “Download for Mac OS”
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
  4. Connect the Galaxy S4 mini Plus to the computer via USB
  5. If necessary, swipe the “Status” bar down and enable “Media sync (MTP)”
  6. Launch Kies on the computer
  7. In Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
  8. Access the “Backup” tab and mark the check box(es) next to “Music”, “Photo” and other media files you want to back up
  9. To proceed, click “Backup” and wait for the process to complete. Then, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect it from the Mac
