How-to: Transfer Contacts from an iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5

Using iTunes:

NOTE: With iTunes installed on a computer connected to the Internet you can sync the contacts stored on your iPhone with your Google account. Then you can sync the contacts from the account with the Galaxy Note 5.

1. Open iTunes on your computer
2. Establish a USB connection between the iPhone and PC
3. The iPhone should appear in iTunes. Click it to reveal the summary page
4. Click the “Info” tab and enable “Sync Contacts With”
5. Select “Google Contacts” from the drop-down menu
6. Sign in with your Google account in iTunes, or click “Configure” and select an existing one (if applicable)
7. Click “Apply” to begin the sync
8. Once done, register the same Google account used in iTunes on the Galaxy Note 5 and allow it to sync contacts with the phone

Using iCloud:

NOTE: If you have backed up your iPhone contacts on your iCloud account, you can access the account on a computer with Internet and export the contacts as a vCard file for Android use.

1. Launch the Internet browser on the computer
2. Visit https://www.icloud.com/ and sign in with your iCloud account
3. Click “Contacts” and select the ones you want to share
4. Click “Settings” > “Export vCard”
5. After the VCF file is downloaded on the computer, import it to “Google Contacts” or alternatively:
6. Connect the Galaxy Note 5 to your PC via USB, transfer the vCard file to the phone’s memory, and use the “Import” function from the “Contacts” app to import the contacts to your phonebook

Using “My Contacts Backup”:

NOTE: The two methods above require access to a computer with Internet, but you can also transfer contacts cross-platform using various third party apps. My Contacts Backup is an iOS application that can be used to back up your iPhone contacts and transfer them via email

1. Visit the App Store and install “My Contacts Backup” on the iPhone
2. Open the app
3. Tap “Backup” and once the file is created, tap “Email”
4. Compose a new email with the vCard file attached to it
5. Send the email to your own address
6. Switch to the Note 5, open the email, and download the attached vCard file
7. Import the file using the “Contacts” application

Using “Send Anywhere”:

NOTE: Another third party app for contact transfer is Send Anywhere, available on both iOS and Android. It uses a peer-to-peer connection to transfer contacts and doesn’t require a computer.

1. Install “Send Anywhere” on the Note 5 via the Google Play Store
2. Install the same app on your iPhone via the App Store
3. Open the app on both smartphones
4. On the sender device (iPhone), tap “Send”
5. Select the desired contacts and tap “Send” again
6. Choose a transfer method. You can tap “Receive” on the Note 5 and enter the transfer code from the iPhone, or you can tap “Generate QR Code” on the iPhone to scan the resulting code with the Note 5’s camera and commence the transfer
