Restore App Data:

  1. If necessary, sign in with your Samsung or Google account (the one used for the initial backup)
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Accounts” under “User and Backup”
  4. Tap “Accounts” and select either “Google” or “Samsung” (depending on the account used for the backup)
  5. Tap your “email address” at the top of the screen
  6. Tap “Sync all”
  7. Return to “User and Backup” clear / check the boxes associated with “Automatic restore” and “Back up my data” under “Backup and Restore”

Restore Contacts form a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Sign in with the Google or Samsung account used for the initial backup
  2. Access the “Settings” menu
  3. Scroll to “User and Backup” and tap “Accounts”
  4. Select “Samsung” or “Google” (depending on the type of account used for the backup)
  5. Tap your “email address” at the top of the screen
  6. Enable “Sync Contacts” if necessary
  7. Tap “Menu” > “Sync now”

Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Galaxy J5 to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the “status” bar down and enable “Media device (MTP)”
  3. On the computer, open an Explorer window
  4. Locate the media files backed up on your computer
  5. Copy the files, and transfer them on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory
  6. Once done, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB connector

Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:

  1. Connect the Galaxy J5 to your Mac via USB
  2. Drag the “Status” bar down and enable “Media device (MTP)”
  3. Open Kies on the Mac
  4. In Kies, click the “Back up / restore” tab
  5. Access the “Restore” tab
  6. Check the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos”, and other types of media files you want to restore
  7. Click “Restore” and follow any additional on-screen prompts that may follow
  8. Once the transfer is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive into the “trash can”, and safely disconnect the device from the USB connector
