Clear App Cache / Data:
NOTE: In case one of your applications doesnt work as intended; crashes, freezes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! Clearing an apps data will remove all the personal information stored within the app, including profiles, saved games, login and credit card information, high scores, settings etc. As such, to avoid losing personal data, try clearing only the apps cache.
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Applications
- Tap Application manager
- Swipe to All or Downloaded
- Select the desired app
- Tap Clear cache
- If necessary, tap Clear data > OK (read WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone isnt working correctly and youre considering master resetting it, you can first try to clear the devices cache partition instead. This can solve numerous issues without having to factory reset the device. To wipe the cache:
- First, turn off the smartphone
- Next, press and hold Volume Up, Power and Home
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- At the Android logo, release all hardware keys and wait for the Recovery menu to appear
- From the Android System Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to confirm
- After the cache is wiped, Reboot system now will be highlighted
- Press Power to confirm and restart your device
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, alternatively you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone.
Reboot in Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. To access this mode:
- First, turn off the phone
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Continue holding Volume Down until the phone finishes rebooting. Once done, a Safe Mode label should be visible in the lower-left corner of the screen
- Next, open the apps drawer and go to Settings
- Tap Applications under Device
- Tap Application manager
- Swipe to Downloaded and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall > Uninstall to confirm
- To exit safe mode, simply press and hold Power and tap Restart
