WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data stored on the phones internal storage will be deleted, including media files and ringtones, contacts, downloaded content, applications etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected by the factory reset. You can visit this thread for a guide on how back up and restore data on the internal memory.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup and reset
- Turn Back up my data and Automatic restore ON or OFF
- Tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN to proceed
- Tap Continue > Delete all to confirm
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting your phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.
- Turn off the phone if necessary
- Press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power
- At the Android logo, release Home and Volume up
- After up to 2 minutes, you will gain access to Android Recovery Menu
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Once the reset is done, Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power to confirm and reboot your phone
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After you factory reset your device, its recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. Do check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About device
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to apply any available update(s). NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
