Clear App Data / Cache:
NOTE: If one of your apps doesnt work as intended, freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try solving these issues by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all personal data stored within the app such as profiles, settings, high scores, save files, login and credit card information etc. will be deleted. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Applications > Application manager
- Swipe to Downloaded or All
- Select the desired app and tap Clear cache
- If necessary, tap Clear data > OK (read WARNING above)
Clear the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and you want to factory reset it, you can try solving these issues without resetting the device, and by clearing the phones cache partition instead. By clearing the cache you can yield similar results to a factory reset, without losing any personal data stored on the device.
- First turn off the phone
- Next, press and hold Power, Volume Up and Home at the same time
- Release Power at the Samsung logo
- At the Android screen, release Home and Volume Up too
- From the Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to confirm the selected option
- Once the cache partition is cleared, Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power to confirm and reboot your device
NOTE: If clearing the cache didnt solve the issues, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Power
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- After the phone finished resetting, release all buttons. NOTE: a Safe Mode label should be visible in the lower-left corner of the home screen
- To remove an app, first open Settings
- Next, scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Tap Application manager and access Downloaded
- Select the app you want to remove
- Tap Uninstall two times to confirm and remove the app
- To exit Safe Mode, press and hold Power and then tap Reboot
