Clear App Data / Cache:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try solving these issues by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all personal data stored within the app – such as profiles, settings, high scores, save files, login and credit card information etc. – will be deleted. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Applications” > “Application manager”
  4. Swipe to “Downloaded” or “All”
  5. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache”
  6. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (read WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and you want to factory reset it, you can try solving these issues without resetting the device, and by clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. By clearing the cache you can yield similar results to a factory reset, without losing any personal data stored on the device.

  1. First turn off the phone
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”, “Volume Up” and “Home” at the same time
  3. Release “Power” at the “Samsung” logo
  4. At the “Android” screen, release “Home” and “Volume Up” too
  5. From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to confirm the selected option
  7. Once the cache partition is cleared, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
  8. Press “Power” to confirm and reboot your device

NOTE: If clearing the cache didn’t solve the issues, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone finished resetting, release all buttons. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” label should be visible in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first open “Settings”
  6. Next, scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications”
  7. Tap “Application manager” and access “Downloaded”
