Back Up & Restore App Data:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal”
  4. Tap “Backup & Reset”
  5. Turn “Back up my data” ON to back up app data, settings, passwords etc. to your Google account
  6. Turn “Automatic Restore” ON to allow app data etc. to be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Google account

Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Open “Contacts”
  2. Tap “More”
  3. Go to “Settings”
  4. In case some of your contacts haven’t been synced with your account yet, you can tap “Move device contacts to”
  5. Tap “Settings” > “Accounts”
  6. Select an account with which to sync the contacts
  7. Tap “More” > “Sync Now”

NOTE: The contacts backed up using this method can be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google or Samsung account.

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the computer
  2. Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
  3. Click “Samsung Smart Switch for PC” and follow the on-screen steps to install the app
  4. Connect the smartphone to your computer via USB
  5. Enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
  6. Open the File Explorer on the computer and locate the desired media files on the phone
  7. Copy and transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer
  8. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Follow the first 5 steps above
  2. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  3. Locate the media file backups on the computer storage
  4. Copy and transfer the files on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory or the folder(s) they originate from
  5. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: In case Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies Support
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and follow the on-screen prompts to install the app on the Mac
  4. Connect the Samsung phone to your Mac via USB
  5. Turn On “File Transfer (MTP)” / “Media device (MTP)” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  6. Open Kies on the Mac and go to “Back up / restore”
  7. Access the “Backup” tab
  8. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to back up
  9. Click “Backup” to start the process
  10. After the backup is done, eject the phone storage by dragging and dropping the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and into the trash can
  11. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

Restore Media Files from a Mac:

  1. Follow the first 6 steps above
  2. Then access the “Restore” tab
  3. Tick the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos” and other media file types you want to restore
  4. Click “Restore”
  5. Follow the on-scree prompts until you complete the process
  6. Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “Trash can”
  7. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
