Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications doesn’t work as intended, it freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes login and credit card information, user profiles, save files, high scores etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Applications” and go to “Application manager”
  4. Go to “Downloaded” or “All”
  5. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache”
  6. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” to confirm (check WARNING above)

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield similar results to a factory reset without losing personal data stored on the internal memory.

  1. If necessary, turn the phone OFF
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” simultaneously
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power”
  4. At the “Android” screen, release “Home” and “Volume Up” too
  5. Once in the Android Recovery menu, press “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. After the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

NOTE: If clearing the phone’s cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone reboots, release “Volume down”. NOTE: A “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. To remove an application, first open “Settings”
  6. Next, scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications”
  7. Tap “Application manager” > “Downloaded”
  8. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” twice to confirm
  9. Once the app has been removed, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your phone as you would do normally by pressing and holding “Power”
