Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your applications doesnt work as intended, it freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes login and credit card information, user profiles, save files, high scores etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Applications and go to Application manager
- Go to Downloaded or All
- Select the desired app and tap Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK to confirm (check WARNING above)
Clear the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can yield similar results to a factory reset without losing personal data stored on the internal memory.
- If necessary, turn the phone OFF
- Press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up simultaneously
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- At the Android screen, release Home and Volume Up too
- Once in the Android Recovery menu, press Volume down to navigate to and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- After the cache is cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the phones cache partition didnt help, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode all third party apps are disabled.
- Turn the phone OFF if necessary
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- After the phone reboots, release Volume down. NOTE: A Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the home screen
- To remove an application, first open Settings
- Next, scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Tap Application manager > Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall twice to confirm
- Once the app has been removed, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your phone as you would do normally by pressing and holding Power
