Back Up and Restore App Data:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & Reset
- Enable Back up my data to back up app data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to your Google account
- Enable Automatic restore to allow app data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to be restored automatically when signing in with the Google account
Back Up Contacts on a Google or Samsung Account:
- Open Contacts
- Tap More > Settings
- In case there are contacts on your phone that havent yet been synced with your account, you can tap Move device contacts to
- Next, tap Settings > Accounts
- Select the desired account with which to sync contacts
- Tap More > Sync Now
NOTE: To restore contacts backed up using this method, sign in with your Samsung or Google backup account and allow it to sync data (including contacts) with your device.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Launch the Internet browser on the computer
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Click Samsung Smart Switch for PC to download and install the app on the computer
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Enable Media device / File Transfer at the prompt or from the Notification area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate the media files on the phone and copy them
- Transfer the files in the desired backup location on the PC storage
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- If necessary follow the first 3 steps above
- Connect the Samsung device to your PC and enable Media device / File transfer at the prompt or from the Notification shade
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate the media file backups on the PC storage
- Copy and transfer the files back on the phone storage, preferably in the Media directory or the folder(s) from which they originate
Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps below if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.
- Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
- Visit Samsung Kies
- Click Download for Mac and install the app on the computer
- Connect the Samsung smartphone to your Mac via USB
- Enable Media device / File Transfer at the prompt or from the Notification area
- Open Kies on the Mac
- In Kies, access the Back up / restore tab and tap Backup
- Tick the check boxes associated with Photos, Music and other media file types you want to back up
- Click Backup to begin the process
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage by dragging and dropping its virtual drive from the desktop and into the Trash can
- You can safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Follow the first 6 steps above
- In Kies, click the Back Up / Restore tab and access Restore
- Tick the boxes associated with Music, Photos and other media file types you want to restore
- Click Restore and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
- Once the process is complete, eject the phone storage by dragging the devices virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the Trash can
- You can safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
