Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings” and scroll to and tap “Cloud and accounts”
  3. Tap “Backup & restore”
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to your Google account
  5. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow data to be restored automatically when reinstalling apps

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Tap “Cloud and accounts” > “Accounts”
  4. Select the account you want to use for contact syncing
  5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync now”

Back Up Contacts to SD Card:

  1. Open “Contacts”
  2. Tap “Menu”
  3. Go to “Settings”
  4. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” and select “All Contacts”
  5. Tap “Import/Export contacts” > “Export to SD Card”
  6. Tap “OK” to confirm

Back Up Media Files on the Phone Storage:

  1. Launch “My Files”
  2. Tap “Internal storage” > “Menu”
  3. Tap “Share” and select the content you want to back up
  4. When ready, tap “Share” again and select a backup location for your files

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) your computer via USB
  2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
  3. Open the File Explorer on the computer and locate the media files on the phone storage
  4. Copy and transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer
  5. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Samsung Kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac” and install Kies on the computer
  4. Connect the Samsung device to your Mac via USB
  5. Enable “Media device” / “File transfer” on the phone, when prompted or from the “Notification” shade
  6. Launch Kies on the Mac and go to “Back up / Restore”
  7. Access the “Backup” tab and tick the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos” and other types of media files you want to back up
  8. Click “Backup” to begin the process
  9. Once the backup is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the “trash can” to eject it
  10. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
