Back Up App Data:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
  3. Enable “Back up my data” to back up Wi-Fi passwords, settings, and app data to your backup account
  4. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data to be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your backup account

Back Up Contacts to the SD Card or Storage:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Applications” > “Contacts”
  4. Tap “Import/Export contacts”
  5. Select to “Export” and choose “Storage” or “SD Card”
  6. Press “OK” to confirm

Back Up Contacts on a Google Account:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Go to “Accounts”
  3. Select “Google” and tap the desired account
  4. Ensure “Contacts” is checked
  5. Tap “More” > “Sync Now”

Back Up Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Launch “My Files”
  2. Scroll to “Local storage” and tap “Device storage”
  3. Tap “More” > “Edit”
  4. Locate and select the media files you want to back up
  5. Tap “More” > “Copy”
  6. Tap “SD card”
  7. Select the desired destination folder and optionally, tap “Create folder”
  8. Tap “Paste here” to confirm

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Samsung phone to your computer via USB
  2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Locate and copy the media files on the phone storage
  5. Transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer
  6. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps below:

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Samsung Kies
  3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” to download and install Kies on the Mac
  4. Connect the Samsung phone to your Mac via USB
  5. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” at the prompt or form the “Notification” area
  6. Tick the check boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos” and other file types you want to back up
  7. Click “Backup” to start the sync
  8. Once the backup is done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “trash can”
  9. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
