Clear App Data/Cache:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t function properly or requires too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s data or cache.

WARNING! By clearing an app’s data you will lose all your personal data stored within the app, including app settings, high scores and save files, credit card and login information, user profiles etc. To avoid this, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “Apps
  3. Select the desired app and access “Storage
  4. Tap “Clear cache
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t solve the problems, tap “Clear data” (check Warning above)

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your device crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicable or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can fix these issues by clearing the cache partition. This can lead to results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal information.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Home” and “Volume Up” simultaneously then press and hold “Power” too
  3. When the droid image pops-up, release all the buttons and wait for access to Recovery
  4. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” to highlight “wipe data / factory reset
  5. Press “Power” to confirm
  6. Next, highlight “Wipe cache partition” using the volume keys and press “Power” to confirm
  7. Highlight “Yes” and confirm
  8. Once the process is done, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power” one last time

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t fix the problems, check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third-party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can uninstall the app from “Safe Mode”. In this mode all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Power Off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Power” past the model name screen
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the device finishes booting up, release “Volume down” (NOTE: a “Safe Mode” label should be visible in the lower area of the screen)
  5. To remove an app, launch “Settings” and access “Apps
  6. Then select the desired app and tap “Uninstall
  7. Once done, you can exit Safe Mode by holding “Power” and tapping “Restart” in the pop-up
