NOTE: You can check this thread for instructions on how to back up data on the Samsung phone.

Restore Contacts from an SD Card:

  1. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  2. Tap “Applications”
  3. Go to “Contacts”
  4. Select to “Import/Export contacts”
  5. Tap “Import” > “SD card”
  6. Select to import a single or multiple vCard files
  7. If needed, select the vCard you want to restore
  8. Select to store contacts on “Device storage” or to sync them with Google

Restore Contacts from a Google Account:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “User and Backup”
  3. Go to “Accounts”
  4. Select “Google”
  5. Tap your email address or username
  6. Ensure “Contacts” is checked then tap “Menu” > “Sync Now”

Restore Media Files from an SD Card:

  1. Launch “My Files”
  2. Scroll to “Local storage”
  3. Tap “SD Card” > “More”
  4. Tap “Edit” and tick the boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
  5. Tap “More” > “Move” > “Device storage”
  6. Select the target folder or tap “Create folder”
  7. Tap “Move here”

Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Android phone to the PC via USB
  2. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the Notification area
  3. Launch the File Explorer on the Mac
  4. Locate the media file backups on the Mac
  5. Copy and paste the files to the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder or the directories from where they originate
  6. Once done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Restore Media Files from a Mac:

  1. Connect the Android device to the computer
  2. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” on the phone
  3. Access the “Restore” tab
  4. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to restore
  5. Select the desired files or “Select all”
  6. Click “Restore” to begin the process
  7. Once done, eject the phone by dragging and dropping its virtual drive from the desktop and into the “Trash can”
  8. You can now safely disconnect the device from the USB
