Back Up App Data:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Go to “Cloud and accounts”
  3. Tap “Backup & Restore”
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, and passwords to your backup account
  5. Enable “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, settings, and passwords to be restored automatically when logging in with the backup account or when reinstalling apps

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Access “Cloud and account”
  3. Select “Accounts”
  4. Tap the account you want to use for the backup
  5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now”

Back Up Contacts to SD Storage:

  1. Open “Contacts”
  2. Tap “Menu”
  3. Go to “Settings”
  4. If necessary, switch to “All contacts”
  5. Tap “Import/Export contacts”
  6. Tap “Export to SD” > “OK”

Back Up Media Files on the Phone Storage:

  1. Launch “My Files”
  2. Go to “Internal storage”
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Share”
  4. Select the desired contacts
  5. Tap “Share”
  6. Select a location for the backup

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Android phone to the PC via USB
  2. On the phone, enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” at the prompt or from the Notification area
  3. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Locate the media files on the phone
  5. Copy and paste the files to the desired backup location on the computer
  6. After the process completes, safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

Back Up Media Files on a Mac:

NOTE: you can skip the first 2 steps below if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac and visit https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
  2. Click “Download for Mac” and install the app on the Mac
  3. Connect the Android device to the Mac via USB
  4. On the phone, enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the Notification area
  5. Launch Kies on the Mac and access the “Back up / restore” tab
  6. Click the “Backup” tab and tick the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos” and other media file types you want to back up
  7. Click “Backup” to begin the process
  8. Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging and dropping its virtual drive from the desktop and into the “Trash can”
  9. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
