WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all your personal data stored on the devices internal memory will be deleted, including contacts, media files, downloaded content, apps etc. In addition, all the settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can check this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on restoring data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open Settings
- Go to Personal
- Tap Backup and reset
- Optionally, enable or disable Restore and Back up my data
- When ready, tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- In case the phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password/PIN to proceed
- Tap Delete all > Reset device
Factory Reset via Android Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can reset the device from the Android Recovery menu. To do this:
- Turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Power Volume Up and Home at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- Release Volume Up and Home at the Android screen
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power to select the option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes delete all user data and press Power
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After factory resetting the phone you should check if new software updates are available for download.
- Launch Settings
- Go to About device
- Check if new updates are available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update (note that the update process will require at least one reboot)
