Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try solving the issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal app data will be deleted, including user profiles, save files, login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the desired app
- Access Storage > Clear cache
- If clearing the apps cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check the WARNING above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your device crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try solving these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.
- Ensure the phone is powered Off
- Next, press and hold Power Volume Up and home at the same time
- At the Android screen, release the keys and wait for access to Android Recovery
- In Recovery, press volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Then, highlight Wipe cache partition and press Power
- Highlight Yes and press Power again to confirm
- Once the cache partition is clear, highlight Reboot system now and press Power one last time
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone Off if necessary
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes rebooting, release the buttons. Note that a Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, first open Settings
- Then go to Apps and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot your phone as you would do normally
