Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try solving these issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal app data will be deleted, including user profiles, save files, personalized settings etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the desired app
- Access Storage
- Tap Clear cache
- If clearing the apps cache didnt help, you can tap Clear data (check the WARNING above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or doesnt work as intended and youre considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try fixing the issues by wiping the phones cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data stored on the device.
- Turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Power Home and Volume Up at the same time
- At the Android screen, release the keys and wait access to Recovery
- Once in Recovery, press volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power
- Next highlight Wipe cache partition and press Power again
- Highlight Yes and press Power
- Once done, ensure Reboot system now is highlighted and press Power one last time
NOTE: if clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- If necessary, turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- Wait for the device to reboot. Once done, it should show a Safe Mode watermark in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, first go to Settings
- Access Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot your phone as you would do normally
