I am trying to find a "work-around" for access to the Internet using a laptop computer and this type of phone.

I have been assigned a dial-up phone number to access the 'net at my college in Maine. I want to be able to use this phone to call the dial-up access number and then interface the call with my laptop computer as though I were dialing up from home using my phone line.
In other words, I think what I am saying is that I want to use this phone merely as a modem. Can this be done?

I am aware that T-Mobile offers an Internet connection service using this phone for a monthly fee of $29.99. But I do not want to use this service. Also, this type of service requires an accessory called a "Data Kit" offered by Samsung (Item #PKT130LBEG for $49.99). This data kit includes a cable between the phone and a USB port on the computer as well as some software.

If I were to only purchase this Data Kit, is there a way to still dial up and not have to have a redundant service for a monthly fee from T-Mobile?

If so, how can it be done?

If not, why?

If not, is it because T-Mobile blocks digital data from passing back and forth similar to that of a modem?

Or, can we still receive (old, slow) analog nevertheless?

My application for this method of accessing the 'net is a means for me to stay in touch with people as I am on a vessel and at times off the coast but within cell-phone coverage.
