I am brand new to this forum, and almost brand new to cell phones with music playback cabability...please be gentle I have a u540 phone with a 1 gig micro disk, and want to transfer music from my computer to the microdisk and play it on the phone. I have formatted the disk and copied mp3s to the disk (my_music directory) using a card reader. I do not have the USB cable. I can find the song on the phone, but when I try to play it, I get the error "Player Error, Unable to play (song name). I have tried converting mp3 to wma, but I get the same error. I'm sure this is a newbie mistake, but can someone help me?

    TIA

    Ken

Re: Help transferring music to u540

I've had the same problem on my U540 since I bought a memory card. I've read through this thread and nothing has helped. I've asked at Verizon to and they tell me that it only plays WMA files. I know it plays MP3 files also. Here's the curveball. I'm on a Macintosh. Why does it make a difference if my MP3 files come from a Macintosh iTunes or a Windows based Windows Media Player? Aren't all MP3s the same file? And yes, my files come from a hard disc. No downloads here.

P.S. I've tried converting the MP3s into WMAs with no success, I still get the error message.

It does matter if you are coming from a mac, you have to make sure that they are mp3 files and not m4a files as that is standard itunes for mac.

Secondly does anyone know how to make mp3's into ring tones for the u540?
