I want to get the Samsung Sync SGH-A707. My parents got it yesterday and I like it except for one thing... the damn 6 or 7 contacts that you can't delete from the address book. They are cingular service numbers such as 'check my minutes,' 'MusicID,' 'Mobile help' or whatever else. Those arent exactly them but if you have this phone you know what i'm talking about.. that makes me furious i cant delete them
Can i hack the phone or something, how can i remove them?

do you have BitPm and a data cable? You'd have to do some hacks using both of those items in order to get rid of them. Let me know if you have them and I'll walk you through the process.

How can you let seven entries out of one thousand bother you? Just ignore them.

I doubt very seriously that he has 1000 entries. It's very easy to be bothersome, especially when we're forced to have something in our phonebook that we didn't put there.

The phonebook can hold one thousand entries. Once you call all the most popular entries, you can use Recent Calls and not have to use the phonebook to dial.

I know it CAN hold that many entries, but that wasn't in question. Anyways, while there are numerous workarounds to this, it still is quite irritating that we can't simply delete said entries on OUR phone, no matter what the capacity is.

Sync master, could you please let me know how to do this? I have bitpim and a data cable and I can access the phone's file system.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Removing the @#%*ing locked cingular service contacts from my address book (A707)

Ok, I've found where the contacts are stored on the phone but can't yet seem to get rid of them.

    They're in /User/Ct/Readonly.dat

I tried changing the file, I even deleted the file, and still the contacts persist (even after power cycling my phone). It did say something like "Initializing address book" after I cycled, so I'm guessing there's a backup somewhere. After the deleting the file, cycling the phone, and seeing the contacts are still there, the readonly.dat file is still deleted, not rewritten. Odd.

On a happy note, I also found where the locked browser favorites are stored, and got rid of them.

    They're in /User/Br/bookmark.xml

You can just delete the entries you don't want and after cycling the phone they'll be gone. I tried setting the "lock" flag to 0 but still couldn't delete them through the phone interface, so I deleted them altogether.
