Re: Alltel samsung muse (sch-u706) Difficulty getting ringtones

To anyone who might be able to help. I downloaded a cdma driver and installed it. then downloaded QPST. When I go to configuration, click ports, then add new port, nothing shows up. I can switch to mass usb, modem, no connection and still nothing. My phone does show up in "my computer" when switched to "mass usb". any ideas on what i am doing wrong? I just want to add some ringtones.

Re: Alltel samsung muse (sch-u706) Difficulty getting ringtones

I just installed QPST on a Gateway 650 just to see what it took to get QPST to work.

#1. Installed Samsung PC Studio 3 software (I did not update the software)
#2. Went to my phone went to SETTINGS> Phone Settings > PC Connection > NO CONNECTION Click OK then back back to the Home Screen
#3. Plugged phone into data cable
    #4. Started QPST CONFIGURATION
#5. Went to PORTS (Middle tab out of 3 tabs)
#6. At the bottom right of this screen you have the option to ADD NEW PORT click that one!
#7. Beings I have several different phones (the MUSE being my GFs' phone) I had the choice of TWO DIFFERENT USB PORTS the first one on com 3 was for my
MOTO Q and the second one is for the MUSE you should see at least TWO COM PORTS on this screen one of them is for your MUSE and it should show USB

It will take a minute or two to connect to your phone but it should be straight forward from here

this is what her folder looks like as it sits now

Ya, I'm doing something way wrong. All I have is COM1 "enabled" "no Phone" and COM 2 "waiting" "n/a" when I click on add new port, all fields are blank.

Yes I had that same issue when I installed the stuff the first time, boot your system into safe mode then take a look at the Device Manager to see if you have any cdma phones installed under the modem section and if you have any yellow exclamamtion marks under the USB secetion. Remove the Samsung from the modems section and also any USB devices not installed correctly. Reboot into windows and then plug your phone in. It should search for the drivers for the phone and get them installed the only way it will not find the drivers is if the drivers were not installed in the right directory.

    Hi all

There is a log of useful info about how to use QPST in this thread - but no ideas on how to obtain the Samsung CDMA USB driver?

I have got QPST but I am presuming it won't work without the driver.

I read a question elsewhere here inquiring about whether PC Studio 3 was no longer free.

I did find it on the Samsung site with a link (I think from this thread) for a different model (SGH-A717?). Samsung conspicuously only has a manual in the download area for the SCH-U706...Samsung-Alltel agreement at work here?

I couldn't find the USB CDMA driver anywhere so got a kit off eBay for about $12 which included the USB cable and driver disk.

The driver appears to be a generic one which works with other models, it also worked with my wife's Samsung My Shot. Although the supplied phone apps on this CD only work with the muse, QPST did work with both phones using the USB driver. The procedure for ringtones is the same on the My Shot as the Muse, although curiously on her phone the last property on the lines in the MsInfo.db file is number 6, not 0 or 5, and even with it set to 6, the MP3 can be set as a ringtone.

Re: Alltel samsung muse (sch-u706) Difficulty getting ringtones

Came across this discussion thread when I did a Google search. I have two Samsung SCH-R430's, aka MyShot. The key to this process is QPST. Thank you QualComm and thank you to the individual(s) who make the QPST cell phone interface application (currently using Version 2.7 Build 323) available for download. CDMA software tools will provide visibility to the embedded file system as well.

You will also need a USB or other serial data cable, or a Bluetooth adapter for your PC.

I find with my phones that the QPST configuration functionality is required only once; i.e., when you initially connect the phones to the PC and add the port (COM5 on my PC, phone = USB-connected, cable obtained for $3.68 from eBay). After that, you need only the EFS (Embedded File System, one presumes) Explorer.

As for modifying ('modding') the ringtone database entries, it's not necessary. The phones' own software and system level application do this automatically upon phone reboot/restart. Specifically, there is no need to modify the "|0|0" values in the MsInfo database to "|0|5", "0|6", "0|7" or any other value. My recommendation -- on the Samsung SCH-R430 at least -- is to leave the MsInfo.db file alone.

It's also not necessary to execute the 'new file' procedure to add the ringtones, and for the MyShot anyway, I reiterate: Leave the MsInfo.db file alone. Editing the file creates unnecessary risk with zero upside. The current QPST build is quite Windows-compatible, so simply drag and drop your MP3 file into the /brew/mod/18067 directory from its location on your PC. Just be careful. I have not tested the extent to which QualComm has (or has not) 'locked down' the directory/folder delete capabilities to idiot-proof their interface. I have deleted ringtones from the /brew/mod/18067 directory with no ill effects. I have also used the QPST EFS Explorer interface to copy photos from my /brew/mod/10888 folder to my PC and then deleted them from the phone as well. Again, no adverse events.

I also use Audacity with the LAME library to edit my MP3 files.

    Hope this helps.
