computer doesn't recognize cell

Hi all. First time here.

OK, so my friend has an old Samsung (R560.CG14) and she tried to hook it up to her computer via USB. Computer didn't recognize the cell. She brought it to me thinking something was wrong with her computer but neither my laptop nor my PC recognizes the cell.

This is an old phone which is from her old phone carrier so it no longer has service but she wants to get the pictures still in it, saved to her computer.

Anyone that can please help?

Oh and my friend has Windows XP and I have Windows 7 in case that matters.

And I was told to get a mini SD card and put everything on that it should help. Haven't tried it yet was waiting for payday.
