S6 freezes up

I have a Galaxy S6 that keeps freezing up on me. It won't reboot in safe mode. I wiped the partition cache. I tried a factory reset and it freezes during the reset and won't complete it. It gets to a blue screen that says installing system updates and freezes no matter how many times I try. What do I need to do to fix this?

In the unlikely event that your device becomes unresponsive, you can attempt a force reboot. This will turn your device off and back on without affecting any data stored on the device.

Do not attempt to remove the battery from your device. Doing so may damage the battery and could cause burning and injury.

Force Reboot
• Ensure your device is charged to a minimum of 5%. If your battery life is below 5%, the device may not turn on after the reboot.
• A device that is completely drained should be charged for a minimum of 15 minutes using the wall charger supplied with your device.
To force reboot your device, press and hold the Volume down and Power/Lock keys on the device for 10–20 seconds. This performs a simulated battery disconnect.

I was able to get it working after doing a factory reset, but still having issues with freezing up and restarting itself. How do I go about flashing a new ROM? Will it fix the problem?

A friend told me they had the same issue with their S6 and it turned out to be the sim card. Is that possible? My S6 is a Verizon phone and I'm using Cricket wireless.
