I have a new 8100 form Qwest. Their service sucks and its a long story but to make it short I cannot use any web services but I want to keep the phone and qwest service because of price plan. Anywho I have a USB cable and software cd that connects my phone to my computer. I have been able to dl a couple ringtones but have no idea how to get them from my hard drive into my phone through the usb. Can anyone help a helpless newbie with this? tia!

    Qwest/Sanyo 8100

Interesting. I'm having the same problem. Can't download anything. Vision Home Page works, as do portals and other items, but downloading always results in the same message:
    LOGIN ERROR.
Application Error. We regret this inconvenience. Please try again later.
Qwest and Sprint have been working on this for over a week.

Also - anyone have any recommendations for sync software? FutureDial doesn't work, neither does DataPilot. I just started experimenting with a program called BitPim on both the Mac and Win98 platforms - but so far, not much luck. The story seems to be that the stuff that works on the 8100 only works with Sprint, not Qwest. The software and Browser versions are different according to the phone info.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Sanyo 8100 w/ Qwest

    Hey guys,

I think I can help you a little bit with this topic. First of all, Qwest Wireless is in a transition to the Sprint Wireless network. Actually all new customers get Sprint network even though they are still Qwest customers regarding the billing. Qwest is leasing the Sprint network like a lot of other small companies which actually are not carriers. All old customers that still use the Qwest network eventually will switch to the new Sprint network because the Qwest network is going down within a year. I must agree that Qwest wireless plan is good but to be honest the new Sprint network sucks. I don't even get any RSSI bars in my home so I switched to Verizon wireless (full RSSI bars) However, there is a difference between the original Sanyo 8100 from Sprint and Sanyo 8100QW from Qwest. The hardware is absolutely identical but Qwest phones were flashed to remove all Sprint branding and the original Sanyo PST won't recognize the rebranded Sprint phone. I am talking here about the programming tool that Qwest uses for flashing and upgrading. I would like to know what software you were talking about in the previous posts, because I have both versions of the PST but still that is only a programming tool, not a sync software. So far I only know one software that conects to Sanyo 8100 for copying files and that is Bitpim. I stay open for further questions regarding this topic.

    Qwest/Sanyo 8100

    Update:
I've gotten BitPim to work on both my iMac and Win98se machines. It talks to my 8100 using the FutureDial USB cable from Radio Shack, Cat. # 170-0782.

BitPim currently transfers only phonebook and calendar data; there is no support yet for ringtones or wallpaper, though the author is considering further refinement to include these features.

FutureDial's SnapSync product also works with the 8100 - but only after a fashion. I find that I have to wait, and wait some more for it to fail, then I have to check Device Manager and manually tell it what com port to use, then wait some more, then tell it what phone I have. After that, it seems to work fine. It's just that it can't seem to identify anything by itself.

Representatives from both FutureDial and Susteen have told me that their software will not work with the Qwest-provided phones due to programming issues, as makden suggested. Feedback from Sanyo appeared to contradict these statements. Advice from Qwest has depended on who I talk to and whether or not the day has an 'r' in it.

BitPim apparently doesn't care, and sees the phones as fundamentally the same. And best of all, BitPim is open source freeware. Because it's still in development and testing, it may have some "rough spots" or quirks, but if you can get it running on your machine, it appears to work very well.
