Problems with Sync software

I recently purchased 3 Sanyo SCP-8200 phones for our family. We would like to be able to sync these phones with our PC's. I purchased Susteen's DataPilot product (w/cable). It installs without a problem, the USB modem driver also properly installs, the DataPilot software runs & exchanges info with MS Outlook - But, and this is the big one, I cannot get the software to find any of the phones. I've tried it on 3 different PC's (XP) at home and on 2 PC's at work (Windows 2000) same results on all if all phones tested. I've written to Susteen twice, but only recieved back trouble-shooting documents. I've tried all of their suggestions. Still, no connection to the phones.

I thought about syncing with my pocket PC as well. I tried to find a cable from Gomadic (www.gomadic.com/phonetopda.html), and got this reply:

I'm afraid we don't have Wireless Internet Cables available for the Sanyo
PM8200.The reason is that your phone does not support serial communication
(it only supports USB) which is required for us to make a PDA to phone
connection. The problem with connecting a PDA to a USB phone is that USB
technology requires all devices to be tagged as either USB Hosts or USB
Peripherals. Phones and PDA's are always tagged as USB peripherals whereas
PC/Laptops are always USB Hosts. In order to have two USB peripherals
connect to each other, you need to have a circuit which simulates a PC in the
middle which is quite complex.

Right now, Samsung and Sanyo are the only major cell phone vendors that
have removed serial support on their phones (Siemens, Ericsson, Motorola,
Kyocera, Audiovox, Nextel and LG include BOTH serial and USB support on their
newer phones). If other vendors follow Sanyo and Samsung's strategy, then
Gomadic will likely re-engineer our ComCube solution to support this more
complex design, however, we are hoping that Sanyo and Samsung instead will
follow suit with their competitors and support both communication standards!

Only time will tell. I hope this explanation helps explain how our Wireless
Internet Cables work.

In light of this information, I began to question Susteens USB Modem driver approach to connecting to a Sanyo SCP-8200 phone. Could they be selling a product which they haven't actually tested?

So, I'd like to put it to others on this forum; does DataPilot work with the 8200 series phones? I hope others will share with me their experiences, positive or negative, with Susteen DataPilot (and other sync software).

I've got a Sanyo 7300 and a Sanyo 8200.
Bought DataPilot USB for it.

Installed it on an HP ze4400 laptop with XP Pro and it works just dandy.
Installed it on a Compaq 700US laptop with XP Home and it works just dandy.

It's been since around October-ish (2004) since I installed the software, but I don't recall any weird problems. I may have done the preliminary install, and then checked for any updates for the software on the DataPilot site before I tried hooking up a phone (I usually do this on weird third party driver software), but whatever I did, I do not recall having any trouble out of it.

Good software, so far. Sorry you're having trouble with it, but I've got to blame it on your installation method or something.

Try removing the software.
Then in control panel/add remove software, remove any weird or questionable software programs (search bars, gator dialers, auto weather programs, casino programs).

Reboot.
Use a search in regedit for datapilot and remove significant registry trees.
Do the same with the word susteen.
Run Windows update and install any critical update.
Re-run windows update and do a "custom" update and make sure to install any hardware drivers it found.
Reboot.

Run AdAware on your puter (www.lavasoft.de)with the latest updated data file. Have AdAware delete all critical entries. Reboot.

Do a complete startup.
Run msconfig from the Start/run box.
Check for weird or obsolete startup entries in the last tab. Uncheck anything that was tied to an old or obsolete program or game (Symantec is horrible about leaving stuff lying around).
Reboot.

Do a complete startup until the drive light stops loading stuff.
Install DataPilot. Follow the bouncing ball. After a complete install, reboot.

Go to Programs, DataPilot from the start menu. Click "check for Updates".
Donwload/Install any and all updates. If it gives you a webpage with instructions, be sure to follow them,. There may be more than one update and it may matter what order you install them. If they install individually, then install them one at a time folowed by a reboot between them.

If that doesn't get you going, then throw the whole lot out of the window and become a monk.

But mine is working just dandy.
